Fran trained in clinical psychology in various public healthcare settings providing adult, couple, family, group, child and adolescent psychotherapy for a range of psychological concerns including: anxiety, depression, adjustment difficulties, posttraumatic stress, substance abuse, sexual abuse, sexual and/or relationship concerns, sexual identity concerns and difficulties relating to self-esteem, work, health and physical disability.
Fran’s therapeutic approach includes a cognitive-behavioural and relational evidence-based practice, yet she adapts her psychotherapeutic practice to the needs, concerns and well-being of each individual patient. Fran also has had brief-term and long-term psychodynamic, family systems and play therapy training experience. Effective strategies for managing, coping with and relieving emotional life stressors are therapeutically addressed in a confidential, supportive environment. Fran’s work (Trauma Clinic) and research on posttraumatic stress helps patient’s deal with traumatic events including emotions such as anger, grief and loss.
Fran provided support and debriefing for healthcare professionals and carers, focusing on supportive strategies designed to alleviate symptoms of burnout (such as exhaustion, desensitization, anxiety). Immigration and other adjustment issues (early parenting, empty-nest, break-ups/divorce, retirement issues etc.) are an area that Fran offers support and psychotherapeutic strategies. Fran also trained in a medical setting where a keen interest in working in the areas of clinical and health psychology (e.g. issues relating to the diagnoses of cancer, diabetes, obesity, sexually transmitted infections) was developed. Fran is a full member of the Australian Psychological Society.
